This painting reminds me of a time when I was in 2nd grade. A girl in my class got up during Show and Tell and started talking about a red ball. I thought “Wow. That’s boring.” I started doodling and wasn’t really paying attention to what she was saying. She went desk to desk to show everyone what she had. Out of the corner of my eye I saw her approach my desk. She was holding the ball out for me to look at it. After glancing at it, I nodded as if to say, “yeah, okay I see it. Move along, move along.” Imagine my horror when she handed me the ball and then went to her desk and sat down. What had I done? I looked at the little rubber ball and suddenly realized that my classmate had found the ball on the playground and was trying to find its owner. I sank down in my desk in misery and guiltily put the ball in my pocket. Later that day I ended up playing handball with a friend using the red rubber ball that wasn’t really mine. A few days later I lost it on the playground. What goes around, comes around I guess.
